The offshore areas of Hsinchu are enriched with a
great variety of fish resources. The local fishermen fish
miscellaneous varieties with tow-nets in the spring, and catch
Spanish mackerel and miscellaneous fish with drift gill nets,
squids with stick-held dip nets in the summer, mainly Scomberomorus
commerson (Barred Spanish Mackerel) with drift gill nets in
the fall and winter, and mullets with drift gill nets in the
winter. Mullets are priced at around NT$50/kg if without roe
but priced as high as around NT$400/kg if with roe. So well
marketable that mullets are among the top favorites in the
eyes of the local fishermen.
The Direct Selling
Center of the Harbor Area has been operated by Hsinchu District
Fishermen’s Association under consignment. You are advised
to visit the ground floor for fresh fish catch and the second
floor to savor the freshly caught seafood which is served
as delicious dishes. You and your kids will definitely linger
on without any thought of leaving while here, especially during
the peak fish season or a holiday while you will excite yourselves
in the fresh fish shopping or flying a kite with your family.
Hsinchu City Government mapped out the huge project to further
develop and beautify the 17km tourism attraction zone in 2003.
The Project includes notably the landscaping wooden tracks
on the north dike. Moreover, we have applied to the Tourism
Bureau, Ministry of Transportation & Communications for
the establishment of a yacht wharf and applied to the Fisheries
Agency for construction of a recreational fishery wharf. Through
these efforts, the citizens and visitors alike will be given
adequate room to enjoy themselves among the oceanic resources.
